26. Apr. 2023, 19:30

Wien, Herklotzgasse 21, 1150 Wien, Austria

Seems like a portal is the meeting point of Christine Bonansea Saulut (France/Germany), Scott Rubin (USA), Antonis Rouvelas (Greece) and between feathers (Austria).

A light illuminates a lost soul awakening in a strange environment. Slowly, she finds her body and discovers her breath.

Soon, she encounters other beings and learns their potential, rules, and limitations.

Relationships form and disintegrate. We see their histories and their present manifestations.

The lost soul dances with energies radiating vibrantly around her.

The contemporary music theatre piece is for one dancer, four musicians (flute, accordion, percussion, voice), lights, projections and live electronics. It creates a theatrical electro-acoustic world around the five performers, explores the artists' relationships, and uses motion-sensitive sound, visual projections and film.

In eight scenes, the audience will witness developing relationships and intimate stories. The performers deal with improvisation and interaction, form groups and dissolve, and have tutti-moments and individual reflections. Films of the musicians will be projected and distorted via motions sensors that the dancer is carrying.

This performance is a co-production between NOW! Oper der Gegenwart (Graz) and between feathers (Vienna). The quartet met with the US composer Scott Rubin and French dancer and choreographer Christine Bonansea in 2019 - after many delays due to the covid-19-pandemic, the project is realised in 2023 in Graz and Vienna. Antonis Rouvelas completes the team as a light designer.

In addition to Seems like a portal, Scott Rubin will perform a solo piece for viola and live electronics.
